Governs Kwame Agbodza, the Minister of Roads and Highways, has started a working trip to the Ashanti Region in order to evaluate ongoing projects and examine important road infrastructure.

The government’s dedication to enhancing the nation’s road systems was reflected in the visit, which happened on Monday, March 3.

The decision to immediately close the Atwima Mponua bridge because of its declining state was one of the visit’s major decisions.

The Minister spoke with local officials, engineers, and citizens about pressing road issues in the area while on his tour.

The Minister clarified that commuters and other road users were at serious risk from the bridge.

“The current state of this bridge is a serious hazard, and we cannot allow it to remain open when lives are at stake,” he said.

He gave locals his word that immediate action would be made to resolve the issue and allow for safe travel again.

The Minister emphasized that safety must come first despite the anticipated short-term disruption caused by the bridge closure.

“I understand that this decision will disrupt movement, but ensuring the safety of road users is our top priority. We will work swiftly to find a solution,” he added.

He gave engineers instructions to carry out a thorough evaluation and provide a proposal for repairs or reconstruction as soon as feasible.

During his visit, Mr. Agbodza also spoke with stakeholders about the future and examined other road developments in the area.

He restated the government’s dedication to boosting economic activity in the Ashanti Region, guaranteeing safer travel, and upgrading road infrastructure.

The Atwima Mponua Bridge and other failing roads in the area need immediate attention, and the locals applauded the minister’s initiative.
