In response to the Upper East Regional Security Council’s recommendations, Interior Minister Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka has extended the curfew that has been in place for the Bawku Municipality and the neighboring districts.
The curfew will be extended and go into effect on Monday, March 3, 2025.
After a week, the curfew hours, which are still from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., may be reviewed or extended.
The minister also reaffirmed the prohibition against carrying offensive weapons, arms, or ammunition in the impacted areas, threatening to arrest and prosecute anyone found in violation.
Since November 2021, Bawku has been under curfew because of continuous chieftaincy clashes that have claimed several lives.
