Widespread rumors that Nigerian boxer Gabriel Oluwasegun passed away during a fight on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at the Bukom Boxing Arena have been refuted by the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA).
The fighter passed out in the arena, but he was still alive when he was taken by paramedics to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, according to GBA Head of Communications Mohamed Amin Lamptey.

“He did not die at the arena,” Lamptey stressed. “He was moving in the ambulance, and efforts were made to resuscitate him before he passed away at the hospital,”
Mr. Lamptey stated during an interview with Ben Osei Bonsu at Guide Sports Xtra.
The GBA spokesperson referred to the occurrence as unfortunate and urged the media to report delicate topics appropriately.
“Some journalists put out unverified stories claiming the boxer died instantly at the venue. That is false and misleading,” he added.
A postmortem is being conducted to ascertain the precise cause of death, and the GBA has promised the public that it will fully cooperate with law enforcement and medical authorities.
