The Ghana Chapter of the Forum for African Women Educationalists (FAWE-Ghana) and the FAWE Africa Board Members held discussions with Hon. Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection, regarding enhancing gender-inclusive education and skill development for marginalized youth prior to the official launch of the Mastercard Foundation Phase II Program and the FAWE Ghana Strategic Plan.

The group described how the organization has long supported access to high-quality education, especially for underprivileged populations and girls.

Additionally, it emphasized the organization’s ten-year scholarship program that has helped young boys and girls in secondary and higher education throughout Africa.

The significance of data-driven policy decisions, such as monitoring gender demographics from birth to better guide future initiatives, was also discussed.

The Minister, Hon. Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, praised FAWE’s work and reiterated the ministry’s dedication to working together on projects that improve vulnerable populations’ access to education.

Assuring equitable opportunity for males is just as important as empowering girls, she underlined the necessity for gender balance in advocacy activities.

As a major factor in young employment and economic development, she also emphasized the government’s commitment to growing Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).

She pointed out that expanding access to high-quality education, particularly for underserved populations, is a primary goal of Ghana’s human capital development strategy.

To help students succeed academically and professionally, FAWE has launched the FAWE MasterCard Program, a bridging program in partnership with partner universities, as part of its enlarged strategy.

This program is an important step in preparing more than 1,100 young people in Ghana, especially females, for leadership positions in a rapidly evolving, innovative, and transformative world.

Dr. Afisah Zakariah, the Chief Director, was also present and reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to closing educational gaps and encouraging skill development for everyone.
