The 37-member Eighth National Development Planning Commission (NDPC), inaugurated by President John Dramani Mahama, has been tasked with drafting a long-term development strategy that will steer Ghana’s advancement for many years and cut across political cycles.

Mahama called on the NDPC to provide the country with a “bold and transformative path” that would enable Ghanaians to transcend their historical constraints.

The NDPC was created in accordance with the 1992 Constitution and is supervised by Acts 479 and 480. Its duties include advising the President and Parliament, reviewing government initiatives, and creating national development plans.

The President emphasized that carrying out this mission requires extensive public consultation. He also mentioned how important the NDPC was in creating the Coordinated Programme of Economic and Social Development Policies, which he must submit to Parliament in two years.

He stated that the program would serve as the foundation for the Medium-Term National Development Policy Framework.
