The Black Queens, Ghana’s senior female football team, have been asked by Minister of Sports and Recreation Mr. Kofi Adams to draw strength from the country’s long history of resilience in their pursuit of victory at the 2024 CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), which will take place in Morocco from July 7–26.

The Black Queens’ campaign will begin on Monday, July 7, against South Africa. They will next play Mali on Friday, July 11, and Tanzania on Monday, July 14.

In order to accomplish that, Mr. Adams emphasized the significance of discipline, unity, and constant support in order to guarantee the team’s success.

“Let the spirit of independence, hard work, and perseverance motivate you. You are not just representing a team but embodying the hopes and dreams of a nation that values freedom, progress, and excellence,” he urged them.

In the late 1990s and early 2000s, African football was dominated by the Black Queens, who gained widespread notoriety.

The team hasn’t participated in the FIFA Women’s World Cup since 2007, though, and the country is keen to fill that void by making it to the World Cup qualifying round.

As a result, the Minister has urged Ghanaians to stand together in support of the Black Queens.

“Let’s support their efforts and ensure they have every resource needed to excel. It’s time for Ghana to reclaim its rightful place at the top of African women’s football,” he said.

“Go out there and make Ghana proud. Show the world what our women can achieve. Your dedication and discipline will inspire generations and rekindle the pride of our nation,” he added.

He also said, “The road to Brazil begins now. Let us come together-government, supporters, and all Ghanaians-to ensure our Black Queens qualify and succeed on the global stage.”

With support from the highest echelons of government, Mr. Adams gave the squad the assurance that the country is behind them.
