Out of the GH¢25 million made available by the Finance Ministry, GH¢23.6 million has been paid by the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs to assembly members in order to settle allowances.

This was revealed by Sector Minister Ahmed Ibrahim during a news conference in the Ministry’s Accra conference room.

The Minister claims that the payment covers April and May 2025 allowances.

“The Ministry of Finance released GH¢25 million on 18th June 2025 as the first tranche of the allocated funds to the Ministry for the payment of the allowances to the various assembly members throughout the country.”

“The Ministry, as of today, Monday, July 14, 2025, has transferred a total amount of GH¢23,621,000 representing allowances of April and May to all assembly members in the country”, he stated.

He further explained that every assembly member is entitled to GH¢1,300 each month, which is meant to help them carry out their responsibilities under the government’s “resetting agenda.”

“Each assembly member is being paid GH¢1,300 per month to enable them to perform their duties efficiently and effectively. A total of 9,085 assembly members are benefiting from this objective.”

“Clearly, the resetting agenda on local governance and decentralisation bodes well with the significant step of transferring resources to local government and assembly members”, he reiterated.

Minister Ahmed Ibrahim reiterated the government’s commitment to putting assembly members’ welfare first, stressing that regular allowance payments are essential to enabling them to carry out their duties efficiently.
