The Member of Parliament for Mampong claims that the only strong contender for the position of leader of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) is Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
He claims that Dr. Bawumia has provided the party with unrivaled longevity of service.
Mr. Ampratwum-Sarpong, who is also the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, believes that Dr. Bawumia has proven his ability and vision, earning the support of the NPP’s members. He also believes that Dr. Bawumia is predestined by God to head the Party.
In an interview with Okay FM, Mr. Ampratwum-Sarpong lauded Dr. Bawumia for his years of dedication to the party as well as his demonstrated skill and foresight, which have won him the NPP members’ support.
He pointed out that as a result, he would be easily elected as the party’s leader to win the future elections. Mr. Ampratwum-Sarpong praised Dr. Bawumia’s expertise and abilities, as well as his dedication to supporting the current administration.
He thinks Dr. Bawumia’s vision for Ghana’s future would build on the successes of the current administration and benefit the party, the country, and the youth in it.
The Mampong MP used the success and positive impact of digitalization in Ghana as an illustration of Dr. Bawumia’s agenda.
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the vice president, announced last week to the majority caucus of Parliament that he would run for president of the NPP in the November primary.
The majority of NPP Members of Parliament (MPs) supported the Vice President’s action at the meeting.
Now there are nine candidates, including Francis Addai-Nimoh, a businessman, and former trade and industry ministers Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto and Kennedy Agyapong, as well as former food and agriculture minister Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen.
The remaining individuals are Dr. Kofi KonaduApraku, a former minister of foreign affairs and regional integration, Joe Ghartey, an MP for the Essikado-Ketan Constituency in the Western Region, Kwabena Agyei Agyapong, a former general secretary of the NPP, and Boakye Agyarko, a former minister of energy.
Many people believe that Dr. Bawumia will succeed President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in 2024, but he will have to defeat Mr. Kyerematen, a three-time contender, who resigned in January of this year to concentrate on his presidential ambition.
The NPP will choose its presidential candidate for the 2024 elections on November 4, 2023, and nine candidates have already declared their candidacies. The NPP has also said that their parliamentary primary will take place in February 2024.
Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has received the endorsement of Mr. Sammy Awuku, Director-General of the National Lottery Authority (NLA), who wants him to represent the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2024 elections.
Mr. Awuku said that Dr. Bawumia would be a strategic candidate for the NPP and that the party might win the election with him as the flag bearer in an interview with Accra-based Asaase Radio on Wednesday.
Despite recognizing that there are other deserving contenders, Mr. Awuku said that he favours Bawumia due to his intelligence and propensity for inclusive politics.
He also highlighted that Bawumia has been a leading advocate for numerous government programs.
Mr. Awuku underlined that rather than considering a candidate’s tribe or religion, voters will be more interested in his or her qualifications for the job.
He asked Bawumia to put in a lot of effort and convince the delegates and party members that he can lead them to break the 8.
Awuku thinks Dr. Bawumia would make a fantastic candidate for the NPP even though he hasn’t yet announced his intentions.
Even those who had previously backed other candidates, he added, are now canvassing for support for Dr. Bawumia.
I think they’re all excellent prospects, but I won’t deny that I have a bias, and that preference will be for the vice president, Mr. Awuku said. It’s also likely that the NPP will prevail in 2024 with a strong candidate; in Bawumia, you have both a very intelligent and capable candidate.
“On Bawumia’s facebook wall, all I could see was that it was feasible. He hasn’t yet made clear what he intends to do. He is tolerant and embraces inclusionary politics, making him a strategic choice for us [NPP]. I’ve observed supporters of previous candidates hustling for votes for him.
“This election will definitely not be about tribe or religion, but rather about the content of what the person can do and provide,” he continued.
“The Vice-President has been at the forefront of championing many government initiatives, and if he decides to throw his hat into the ring and he asks for our support, it’s something that it’s also worth considering,” Mr. Awuku said.
