A National Asset Management Working Committee has been established by Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, Minister of Finance, with the responsibility of identifying, accounting for, and guaranteeing the appropriate management of Ghana’s public assets.

During the ceremony in Accra, Dr. Forson emphasized that a significant weakness in public financial management is the lack of an extensive State Assets Register.

He urged immediate action to undo years of government property abuse, neglect, and illegal habitation.

Additionally, he urged the committee to stop the wanton sale of public lands and the declining state of other state assets.

Deputy Minister for Finance Hon. Thomas Ampem Nyarko, who chairs the committee, promised that under his direction, the practice of purchasing new public assets without first evaluating the ones that already exist will end.
