Mr. Bernard Antwi Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi, has been the subject of investigations by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).
After being held by EOCO for over a week, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Ashanti Regional Chairman has been the subject of an investigation.
After being detained by EOCO on suspicion of fraud, money laundering, and other financial crimes, he was granted bail on Tuesday, May 27, in the amount of GH₵50 million with two sureties, both of which had to be justified.
According to Attorney-General and Justice Minister Dr. Dominic Akurutinga Ayine, the EOCO has also finished looking into Mr. Abdul-Wahab Hannan, the former CEO of the National Buffer Stock Company, and his associates.
“The results of both investigations will be announced very soon,” the Attorney-General said.
“We have prepared charges and sent them back to the Police CID for the suspects to be formally charged before their arraignment in court in the coming days,” the Attorney General said.
At the Government Accountability Series press conference held at the Presidency in Accra, he made these announcements.
Mr. Ayine mentioned that the docket for the Akonta Mining Case had also been finished and turned in to his office by the Police Criminal Investigations Department (CID).
