Crash of Helicopter: The Presidency requests tributes, prior to the State Funeral for crash victims

The public has been asked by the Presidency to offer condolences for the eight people who perished in the military helicopter disaster on August 6, 2025.

The Funeral Planning Committee asked people, organizations, and institutions to submit sympathy words and emotional tributes for the official state funeral booklet in a statement released on Monday, August 11.

The gesture is part of an effort to honor the martyrs’ service and sacrifice to the country, according to a statement issued by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the President’s spokesperson and Minister of Government Communications.

On Friday, August 15, 2025, at 8:00 a.m., a state funeral will take place in Accra’s Black Star Square. Ghanaians from all walks of life are anticipated to attend the occasion to pay their last respects.

On Sunday, August 10, two of the fatalities were laid to rest: Alhaji Limuna Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, and Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammad, Minister for Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation.

After the forensic records for all eight victims, whose remains were badly burned in the collision, were made public, they were buried.

President John Dramani Mahama said that the reports for Dr. Murtala and Alhaji Muniru were received electronically and that the DNA analyses were carried out in South Africa.

Alhaji Limuna Muniru Mohammed, NDC Vice Chairman Samuel Sarpong, Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammad, former parliamentary candidate Samuel Aboagye, Defense Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah were all killed in the crash.
