The contractors on the Ofankor–Nsawam road project have firmly committed to finishing all work by the second quarter of 2026, thanks to President John Dramani Mahama.

This comes after he visited the location to resolve protracted delays that have made thousands of commuters’ traffic problems worse.

In order to ensure that the dual carriageway endures, the President, accompanied by Kwame Governs Agbodza, Minister of Roads and Highways, directly addressed the project’s troubled past. He demanded not only a rapid acceleration of work but also unwavering assurances that quality standards would be strictly adhered to.

A major artery connecting Accra to Kumasi and the northern part of the country, the critical infrastructure project was put on hold for four months because of alleged non-payment to the contractors, Maripoma Enterprise Limited. This year, the President’s directive is a decisive step to get it back on track.

President Mahama emphasized the project’s economic and social necessity during yesterday’s inspection, which has caused a great deal of annoyance for both locals and drivers.

“One of the major problems with road contractors in this country is the quality of material. So you build the road, and after a short while it begins to deteriorate.”

The President stated, “Your company is one of the well-known contractors in Ghana and so this could be a mark of the quality of your brand.”

President Mahama went on to say, “As the government has committed to paying you well, you too must commit to moving faster on the road and also use quality materials.”

Kwabena Bimpong, the project’s Chief Resident Engineer, publicly confirmed the revised completion schedule, giving the administration the reassurance it sought.

He declared, “I can assure the government and the people of Ghana that construction will be fully completed by the second quarter of 2026.”

Restoring public trust in the project is crucial for reducing traffic and enabling more efficient transit of goods and services, and the President’s working visit and the ensuing resolute assurance are viewed as a major step in that direction.
