The government of Ghana has taken another significant step towards the construction of the Volivo Bridge over the Volta River, with a fresh bidding process officially opened as part of efforts to advance the major infrastructure project.
The Minister of Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to delivering the bridge, describing it as a critical infrastructure investment expected to improve transportation, strengthen economic activities and enhance connectivity among communities along the Volta River.

According to the Minister, an evaluation team has been established to assess bids submitted by interested contractors. The assessment process is expected to be completed within seven days, paving the way for the selection of a qualified construction company.
He further indicated that physical construction works on the Volivo Bridge are expected to begin at the start of next year.
The project is being implemented through a bilateral partnership between Ghana and Japan, reflecting the longstanding diplomatic and development cooperation between the two countries.
Mr Agbodza described the proposed bridge as an important symbol of the strong relationship between Ghana and Japan, expressing confidence that a competent contractor would be selected and receive the necessary government support to ensure the successful execution of the project.
He stated that the Volivo Bridge would serve as tangible evidence of the cordial and progressive relationship between the two nations.
When completed, the Volivo Bridge is expected to transform transportation and improve access to essential services for residents in communities on both sides of the Volta River.
The infrastructure project is also anticipated to make the movement of agricultural produce, commercial goods and passengers easier, reduce transportation difficulties and create new opportunities for businesses and local traders.
The construction of the bridge is therefore expected to contribute significantly to rural development, regional trade, job creation and economic growth in surrounding communities.
The Volivo Bridge project forms part of broader efforts to improve Ghana’s road infrastructure, strengthen transport networks and promote socio-economic development through strategic public infrastructure investments.
