The Farmer Tribe Company Limited has a permission to conduct retail business in the nation but not to import seeds, according to Minister of Food and Agriculture Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto.

On March 25, 2020, the agrochemical company renewed its license and was properly registered with the Plant Protection and Regulatory Services Directorate (PPRSD) of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) as a retailer to sell seeds.

He added, “PPRSD of MoFA can verify this.

In response to a query from Mr. Abed-Nego Azumah Bandim, the Member of Parliament for Bunkpurugu, regarding whether Farmer Tribe, a Tamale-based distributor of agrochemicals and seeds, had obtained a license from the Ministry to bring hybrid maize seeds into Ghana and sell them there, Dr. Afriyie Akoto made the remark.

He informed the legislature that the organization obtained the hybrid maize seeds it marketed from Ghanaian seed importers.

Therefore, Mr. Speaker, for emphasis, Farmer Tribe is a retail business without a license to bring seeds into the nation, he stated.

Therefore, Dr. Afriyie Akoto advised farmers to contact him or other stakeholders to request investigations and any required legal action against the corporation for any business violations.
