Ghanaians have received assurances from President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo that agriculture will continue to be a primary focus for his administration.
On Friday, December 2, he mentioned that his administration had made a number of investments in the industry during a speech during the 2022 National Farmers’ Day celebrations.
His dedication to the industry is evidenced by “the tremendous investments” made there, he claimed.
“Ghana is better prepared and has shown resistance to the current challenges threatening to destabilize our food systems, unlike many other nations, according to the optimistic narrative regarding government assistance for the agriculture sector.
“This has been made possible by the excellent, practical policies and programs set out at the beginning of my leadership,” the statement continues.
In addition, Mr. Akufo-Addo noted that his administration took over output levels of 1.7 million metric tonnes of maize and 665,000 metric tonnes of rice in 2016.
But thanks to the project he initiated, planting for food and jobs (PFJ), maize production will reach 3.4 million tonnes by 2021 and rice will reach 1.2 million metric tonnes.
He declared, “The credit must go to our brave farmers, fishers, and value chain participants who accepted the PFJ policy and capitalized on the opportunities presented by the enabling environment for agricultural development.
