Incorporated in 2017 under Ghanaian law, Electrochem Ghana Limited is a completely owned Ghanaian business that is well-positioned to invest in and maximize earnings from the salt and chemical industries by leveraging more than 20 years of experience and resources.
In October 2020, Parliament approved a 15-year mining lease for the company, giving it permission to mine 41,000 acres at Ada Songor and generate 1,000,000 metric tons of salt annually for both domestic and international markets.
The output will be significantly boosted over the next few months, with a portion of it going to a chlor-alkali factory that will use it to make caustic soda and other chemical goods.
The business also has aspirations to rank among the top producers of salt and chlor-alkali in both Africa and the rest of the world.
In order to make Ghana the principal producer of the good in West Africa, Electrochem wants to increase salt production at the facility to one million metric tonnes annually.
The Ada Songhor Salt Project initially produced 60,000 tonnes of salt, but after two years of operation and more than 120 million dollars invested, the company is now generating between 200,000 and 300,000 metric tonnes.
