The Movement for Change’s presidential candidate, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, has harshly criticized former President John Agyekum Kufuor for supporting Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the general elections scheduled for 2024.
Alan was blunt in his criticism of the former Ghanaian leader who urged Ghanaians to support Dr. Bawumia.
This comes after former President Kufuor, in an interview with a few journalists on Sunday, November 17, urged Ghanaians to vote for Dr. Bawumia in the December elections, describing him as the best person to govern the country.
“Given the current global circumstances, I firmly believe that Ghana’s economy will experience significant improvement if Bawumia is elected as President. With divine guidance, he is capable of delivering on this promise, and I encourage you to support his candidacy.”
During an appearance on Oyerepa TV on Monday, November 18, 2024, Alan Kyerematen responded forcefully, criticizing Kufuor’s endorsement and arguing that it compromises the neutrality expected of a statesman.
Kyerematen voiced worry that Kufuor’s support had not only tarnished his image but also drawn insults and widespread criticism.
Since Kufuor is my uncle, I don’t want to criticize him in public.
However, his political career has been severely damaged by what he did. Are you aware of the negative remarks that people have begun to make about him?
“He’s very respected in Ghana, so why would he now be engaging in politics of this nature? He’s my uncle and his actions are bad, he’s treading on dangerous ground, and he has to stop. He knows what he’s doing.”
As the 2024 elections get near, the former NPP member who founded the Movement for Change as a rival to the NPP and National Democratic Congress (NDC) emphasized the escalating political tensions.
