Alex Ekubo, a popular Nollywood actor, reportedly died at the age of 40.
On Tuesday, May 12, 2026, news of his passing surfaced after a number of his coworkers in the Nigerian film business used social media to express their grief and honour his life and achievements.
Godwin Nnadiekwe, Bolanle Ninalowo, and Funke Akindele were among those who verified the development.
In an emotional Instagram story post, Akindele wrote: “Hmmmmmm.” Rest in peace, Alex. I attempted to contact you one more time, but I suppose you knew better. “Alex, may your kind soul rest in peace.”
“Ore mi’, like you fondly called me, I will always remember and cherish the good times we shared together. Rest in Peace, Alex.” she added.
Ninalowo also responded to the news from the United States, writing, “Rest on, Alex. May God heal your family and us all.”
Nnadiekwe characterised the news as terrible, saying he was still trying to come to terms with the actor’s passing.
“I’m struggling to find the words. This news has truly broken me. Nollywood has lost a rare soul, and I’m lost for words because this wasn’t the plan, Alex Ekubo,” he posted.
“To think you already prepared your Will — It’s heartbroken, I can’t quite describe. Rest well, my friend,” he added.
Ekubo’s family has not yet issued an official statement attesting to the circumstances of his death as of the time this article was filed.
The actor passed unexpectedly a few weeks after worries about his health reappeared online when he made his first public appearance after being off social media for several months.
Fans speculated about Ekubo’s well-being after he stopped posting on Instagram on December 30, 2024. Ekubo is well-known for his appearances in various Nollywood movies.
Viewers remarked that the actor appeared leaner and more reserved in a recent viral video of him engaging with kids, which attracted more attention.
