Workers of the Public Services Workers’ Union (PSWU) of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) Ghana, which oversees the National Identification Authority (NIA), have announced that they will start their planned indefinite strike on Wednesday, May 13, 2026.
The workers are requesting that migration reports pertaining to their working conditions be approved and implemented right away.
A joint statement issued by Divisional Chairman Bismark Francis Bangfudem Nyuzaghl and Assistant Divisional Secretary Godsway Ayivor stated this.
According to the statement, union members nationwide were instructed not to report to work starting at midnight on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, until further notice.
“Effective 12:00 midnight, the indefinite strike is fully activated. Accordingly, no member of the NIA Division is expected to show up for work until further notice,” the statement said.
“All regional executives and members are also directed to form monitoring units, go round the various offices, and ensure full compliance with the strike without fail,” the statement added.
The union also directed regional leaders to form monitoring teams to guarantee that the industrial action is fully implemented in all NIA offices nationally.
The union asked members who were having trouble during the strike to contact divisional officials right away for assistance and a solution.
“In solidarity, we stand. No retreat, no surrender until victory,” the statement declared.
Services at NIA offices around the nation, such as the registration and issuing of Ghana Cards and other identification-related services, are anticipated to be disrupted by the strike.
In the meantime, the NIA’s management urged its employees to give the government an additional two weeks to finish the procedures pertaining to the approval and implementation of migration reports that have an impact on employees’ working conditions.
