Sarah Adwoa Safo, a former member of parliament for Dome-Kwabenya, has asked the Attorney General and Minister for Justice to examine and move a criminal case from the Adenta Circuit Court to the High Court about an alleged gunshot incident.

Her lawyers contended in a petition dated June 25, 2026, that the Circuit Court lacked jurisdiction to hear the case because the primary charge is a first-degree felony, which they claim can only be tried at the High Court.

Charges against the accused, including the former MP, include employing offensive weapons, possessing explosives and firearms, engaging in vigilante actions, discharging firearms in public, and inflicting unauthorised damage.

The petition states that employing an offensive weapon to wilfully and unlawfully cause harm is a first-degree felony that has to be tried on an indictment before the High Court.

“Respectfully, the offence of intentionally and unlawfully causing harm with the use of an offensive weapon is a first-degree felony and is triable on indictment before the High Court, not the Circuit Court,” the petition stated.

Her legal team additionally contended that the Circuit Court does not have the authority to hear the case or consider the accused parties’ requests for bail.

The petition concerns an alleged shooting incident that occurred on June 21, 2026, in which Adwoa Safo was allegedly attacked while sitting in her car outside the home of her brother, Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena, who is also one of the defendants.

There are allegations that gunshot fragments are still embedded in her skull and that she suffered injuries to her face, ear, jaw, and back of her head.

According to reports, her Toyota Land Cruiser Prado was also damaged.

The brother of the former MP and eight other people were detained after the incident, charged in court, and given GH¢500,000 bail with two sureties.

In order to guarantee what her solicitors refer to as a thorough and prompt trial, the petition asks the Attorney-General to call for the police docket, review the case and have it refiled before the High Court.
