Ghanaians have been urged by President John Dramani Mahama to fully utilise the government’s Free Primary Health Care program, which aims to provide access to high-quality healthcare and encourage early sickness identification and treatment.

During an assessment of the Free Primary Health Care Hospital project at Ohiaba in the Central Region’s Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese District, the president made the plea.

He clarified that the goal of the program is to give all Ghanaians access to reasonably priced healthcare services, especially those who live in underprivileged areas and have trouble getting basic medical care.

In order to lessen the impact of catastrophic illnesses on families and the country’s healthcare system, President Mahama says the effort will concentrate on disease prevention through routine health screenings, early diagnosis, and timely treatment.

He declared that widespread community outreach programs would soon be launched by qualified health professionals who would visit homes to provide free medical screenings, offer health education, and give required drugs when needed.

Residents were reassured by the President that recipients would receive free primary healthcare services without having to pay policy-covered consultation or treatment costs.

He urged Ghanaians to support the program and prioritise regular medical examinations, pointing out that early disease detection facilitates treatment and lowers preventable mortality.

Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, the Minister of Health, praised President Mahama for enacting the policy, calling it a historic move that will enhance healthcare delivery nationwide.

According to him, the program’s three main pillars—free primary healthcare services, free membership and renewal of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), and the Mahama Care program—all work to guarantee that everyone has access to high-quality healthcare.

The proposal, according to Mr. Akandoh, is a long-term national initiative that will promote residents’ well-being and fortify Ghana’s healthcare system.

In order to fully benefit from the program, he also asked Ghanaians to sign up for or renew their NHIS membership. He also recommended that the public get checked out at least once a year in order to discover and treat health issues early.
