MTN Ghana has reported that undersea cable cuts off the coast of Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, are impacting internet connectivity and data services in Ghana and several other countries in the sub-region.

The telecommunications provider stated in a customer notification dated June 27 that internet services are being impacted by the damage to the subsea cable infrastructure, highlighting the vital role international fiber-optic networks play in facilitating digital communications throughout West Africa.

A portion of the statement said, “MTN Ghana would like to inform our customers that undersea cable cuts off the coast of Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire are affecting connectivity and internet services in Ghana and some countries in the subregion.”

Both customers and companies that depend on reliable internet access for day-to-day operations—such as financial institutions, digital platforms, e-commerce operators, and organisations that rely on cloud-based services—are anticipated to be impacted by the disruption.

According to MTN Ghana, it is actively working with its foreign partners to find a solution and promptly resume services.

The statement continued, “We are actively engaging our international partners to resolve the issue as soon as possible.”

MTN Ghana expressed regret to its clients for the inconvenience and reassured them that work is being done to fix the issue and return service to normal.

The business promised to keep clients informed as the crisis progressed, but it did not give a precise timeframe for the complete restoration of services.
