The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) held its annual thanksgiving service and city-wide worship concert, dubbed “Accra Worships,” bringing together staff, residents, and invited guests in an all-white gathering to offer praise and prayers for the capital’s peace, progress, and development ahead of the holiday season.
The event, held at the forecourt of the AMA City Hall under the subject “Counting Our Blessings in Worship,” combined music, scripture, and intercession to provide a platform for thankfulness, reflection, and prayer for Accra and the nation.
Terry Johnson, a Ga praise and worship preacher, Rebecca Yella of the AMA, Ebenezer Addo, also known on social media as “God Son,” and Gifty Nyiraba, who travelled from Kumasi for the event, all sang songs at the worship concert.

In a speech, Rev. Fr. Thomas Wilson Jacobs exhorted believers to maintain their gratitude and strong faith as well as to support ideals that promote harmony and responsible city life, especially during the holiday season when business activity and mobility in the city increase.
Hon. Michael Kpakpo Allotey, the mayor of Accra, said in his speech that the Assembly’s advancement had been sustained by God’s direction and characterised the occasion as both a public thanksgiving and a personal testimony.
He thanked President John Dramani Mahama for giving him the position of mayor and promised to work hard enough to earn the trust that was put in him.
The Mayor stated that the Assembly would be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, beginning the following week, with the goal of increasing municipal presence and response.
He urged young people to volunteer for assignment-based support, including responsibilities that would assist in protecting traders, particularly market women, from theft and other threats throughout the capital.
He stated that the AMA had begun a rebranding campaign, citing the branding of official vehicles as an early indication of the changes underway, and urged employees at all levels, from cleaners and security personnel to directors and administrators, to support efforts to “do things differently” in the coming year.
As the Assembly worked to reform and boost performance, he also announced increases in compensation payments and urged employees to make responsible plans.
Ablekuma Central’s Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Frank Nkansah; Ablekuma West’s MCE, Hon. George Kpakpo Allotey; Korle Klottey’s MCE, Hon. Alfred Allotey-Gaisie; and the AMA’s Coordinating Director, Mr. Douglas N.K. Annoful, were among those in attendance.
