The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) states it has discovered a potential gang involved in the manufacturing and distribution of forged marriage certificates to unsuspecting members of the public.
The fake enterprise was found when a client’s marriage certificate, purportedly obtained through the syndicate, was rejected by a foreign embassy during a visa application due to discrepancies. The matter was then reported to the AMA, which prompted internal investigations.
Confirming the news, Gilbert Nii Ankrah, Head of Public Affairs at the AMA, stated that the Assembly has begun an investigation and reported the case to the Ghana Police Service for further action.
He clarified that initial investigations showed the perpetrators had been fabricating marriage certificates while pretending to be AMA personnel in charge of assisting with marriage registrations.
Mr. Ankrah stated, “The Assembly has detected these fraudulent activities and immediately handed the matter over to the Police for a full-scale investigation.”
When seeking marriage registration services, Mr. Ankrah advised the public to engage directly with the AMA’s official Marriage Registry rather than through middlemen or unofficial agencies.
