The police’s suggestion that the group move their picketing from the Revolution Square next to the Jubilee House to the Independence Square is, according to the pressure group AriseGhana, unacceptable.

According to the authorities, AriseGhana members could not picket the Revolution Square since it is a security zone.

Though the location was carefully chosen to confront the president and his government, whose office and seat of government is right opposite, the organization insists it will picket there from November 15 to 17.

According to AriseGhana, the following modifications to its plans have been made to facilitate the work of the police.

  1. To ensure efficient policing, the number of participants will be lowered from 500,000 to 500 per day.
  2. To avoid rush hour, the picketing will only go for four hours instead of six, beginning at noon and ending at four o’clock.
  3. The picketing will stay behind a predetermined police perimeter rather than spill onto both sides of the road in order to prevent inconvenience and disruption to essential services.

AriseGhana urges the police to act professionally, concentrate on getting ready for the activities, and put more of an emphasis on protecting people than on quelling protests.
