The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has launched an operation to arrest suspected accomplices in Ghana following the arrest of a Syrian national in Lebanon with approximately 40 kilogrammes of suspected cocaine allegedly transported through the Kotoka International Airport in Accra.

The suspect was arrested on Saturday, October 31, 2026, at Rafic Hariri International Airport in Beirut after arriving from Accra with the suspected narcotics concealed in two pieces of luggage.

In a statement issued on Sunday, November 1, 2026, NACOC confirmed that investigations were ongoing in Ghana to identify and apprehend individuals suspected of being involved in the international cocaine trafficking operation.

The statement, signed by the Acting Director of Public Affairs and International Relations, Francis Opoku Amoah, disclosed that the arrest followed a coordinated controlled delivery operation involving Ghanaian and Lebanese drug enforcement authorities.

According to NACOC, the operation was aimed at identifying and arresting individuals operating at different stages of the drug trafficking supply chain while gathering intelligence to dismantle the wider international criminal network responsible for the shipment.

The Commission explained that the successful operation demonstrated the importance of international cooperation, intelligence sharing and coordinated law enforcement efforts in combating cross-border drug trafficking.

NACOC further emphasised that Ghana and Lebanon remain committed to strengthening collaboration to disrupt international narcotics networks and prevent illegal drug shipments from passing through their respective jurisdictions.

The ongoing investigations are expected to help uncover the suspected local accomplices and establish the full extent of the international cocaine trafficking network.
