The National Democratic Congress (NDC), the main opposition party, is poised to win more parliamentary seats and garner significant support in the Ashanti region during the general elections in 2024, according to Andrew Augustus Nana Akwasi, the NDC’s regional chairman for that region.

The Ashanti regional NDC Chairman told the media in Kumasi today, May 31, 2023, that the regional executives have set a target of exceeding 30% of votes in the next general elections in the stronghold of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

According to Nana Akwasi, the NPP in power has not been able to implement even half of the projects the NDC undertook in its much-touted stronghold.

He promised that “the branch constituencies and the regional executives will work to ensure victory for the party and John Mahama in the Ashanti region in 2024.”

“If you compare what the NDC did for the Ashanti region while in government compared to what the current government is doing, NPP has not done half,” he remarked.

He claimed that the region has been misled by the NPP, which has sparked public outrage and calls for the NDC to take back power as a result of the enormous projects that previous President Mahama oversaw.

He mentioned a few of the projects the NDC undertook in the area, including the Kejetia Redevelopment Projects and the Afari Military Hospital.

For failing to finish the Central Market Redevelopment Project, he blasted the NPP.

The Ashanti regional NPP Chairman stated, “If you look at the Central market, that project has stalled,” and vowed that if the NDC were to win power again, it would take all necessary measures to show its appreciation for the residents of the area with significant development.

He praised the area for not withholding their electoral support from the NDC.
