Former Vice President Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who is vying to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2028 General Elections, has put on an outstanding display of strength in the heartland of one of his main rivals, Dr Bryan Acheampong.

Dr. Bawumia’s tour of Abetifi, Bryan Acheampong’s home constituency, drew significant support ahead of the party’s presidential primary scheduled for January 2025.

Dr. Bawumia and his campaign team paid a visit to Abetifi, the seat Bryan Acheampong represents in Parliament, as part of their Eastern Region itinerary.

A sizable and passionate crowd welcomed the former vice president, who is credited with various policy improvements during his term. This was a major help to his candidacy within Bryan Acheampong’s own political turf.

Wearing party colors, NPP supporters greeted him into the constituency by waving flags and dancing. The tense atmosphere indicated that his campaign was gaining traction.

“Abetifi, Nkawkaw, Abirem, and Atiwa East constituencies showed up with much love and support as I continued my tour of the Eastern Region,” the former vice president said, expressing gratitude for the overwhelming response.

“The strong desire to win with me is very much appreciated, and I reiterate my commitment to work with all for our collective victory.”

Additionally, Dr. Bawumia started a new phase of his campaign in the Eastern Region, visiting the constituencies of Mpraeso, Afram Plains North, and Afram Plains South.

He said that taking a ferry over the river into Afram Plains brought back fond memories of the work he and party members had done in the region during the previous 17 years.

“We are still on a journey to win together and make our party and country greater. I look forward to meeting and interacting with all of you in the remaining constituencies,” he continued.
