Former Energy Minister and New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Chairman aspirant, Boakye Agyarko, has congratulated John Boadu and the newly elected national executives of the NPP following the party’s National Delegates Conference in Kumasi.

Mr Agyarko, who contested the NPP National Chairman election against John Boadu, pledged his full support to the new leadership and the party’s flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, as the NPP begins preparations for the 2028 general elections.

John Boadu emerged victorious in the closely contested NPP chairmanship election after securing 2,888 votes, while Boakye Agyarko obtained 2,048 votes.

In a statement issued on Sunday, October 4, 2026, Mr Agyarko said he was prepared to work with the newly elected leadership to strengthen the party and achieve its political objectives.

“I stand fully and resolutely ready to support Chairman John Boadu, the entire newly elected National Executive Committee, and our Flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia,” he stated.

Agyarko Commends NPP Democratic Process

Boakye Agyarko said the outcome of the NPP National Delegates Conference demonstrated the party’s democratic credentials, internal strength and commitment to the future of the Danquah-Busia-Dombo political tradition.

He congratulated John Boadu on his election as NPP National Chairman, noting that party delegates had entrusted him with the responsibility of leading the affairs of the party.

Agyarko also congratulated the other newly elected national executives, describing their victories as a call to greater service, responsibility and sacrifice for the NPP.

The former Energy Minister expressed appreciation to his campaign team, volunteers, constituency chairpersons, constituency executives and delegates who supported his bid for the national chairmanship position.

According to him, his campaign was conducted with dignity, determination and a strong commitment to the principles of the New Patriotic Party.

“Internal contests in our party are not battles between adversaries; they are family contests among brothers and sisters committed to the same sacred cause,” he said.

Focus Shifts to NPP 2028 Election Campaign

Mr Agyarko said the conclusion of the NPP national executive elections should mark the beginning of a new phase of unity and consolidation within the party.

He stressed that there should be no lasting division between contestants and their supporters following the internal elections, saying the ultimate goal must be to strengthen the NPP ahead of the 2028 presidential and parliamentary elections.

“The election is behind us, and the time for consolidation begins immediately. The challenges ahead of our nation and party require closing ranks, binding every wound, and presenting an impenetrable, united front,” he said.

He identified the NPP’s victory in the 2028 elections as the party’s primary objective and pledged to contribute to efforts aimed at returning the party to government.

“Our supreme, non-negotiable objective remains the total, decisive victory of the New Patriotic Party in the 2028 presidential and parliamentary elections,” Mr Agyarko stated.

He further pledged to work with the party’s leadership and grassroots members across all 16 regions of Ghana to help rebuild the NPP and strengthen its electoral prospects.

Agyarko Praises Electoral Authorities

Boakye Agyarko also commended the NPP National Elections Committee, the Electoral Commission of Ghana and the security services for overseeing what he described as a smooth, transparent and peaceful election.

He urged NPP members and supporters to remain united, disciplined and focused as the party moves beyond its internal elections and begins preparations for the 2028 Ghana elections.

The former Energy Minister’s call for unity comes as the NPP seeks to consolidate its internal structures and mobilise its grassroots ahead of the next presidential and parliamentary elections, with Dr Mahamudu Bawumia leading the party’s presidential campaign.
