On Friday, January 3, 2025, during President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s last State of the Nation Address, one of his personal bodyguards, Colonel Isaac Amponsah, fainted while on duty in Parliament, causing a dramatic event.

The event happened soon after the President started his speech, which defined goals for Ghana’s future and assessed the accomplishments of his government.

Those present were immediately alarmed when Col. Amponsah, a devoted and long-serving member of the President’s security detail, abruptly passed out.

The medical staff at Parliament acted quickly, providing Col. Amponsah with first aid before transferring him to a local hospital for more assessment and treatment.

Evidently worried, President Akufo-Addo interrupted his speech to make sure his bodyguard got timely attention.

The President continued to reflect on Ghana’s progress and lay the groundwork for the country’s future under new leadership as the speech soon resumed.
