The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has begun its Eat Ghana, Wear Ghana Week Celebration, with staff throughout the Assembly dressed in Ghanaian print to encourage local culture, national identity, and support for homegrown industry.

The first day of the event, known as Corporate Ghana Day, was dedicated to encouraging employees to proudly wear Ghanaian clothes to work as a visible demonstration of support for locally produced fabrics and fashion.

To commemorate the occasion, a team from the Assembly’s Public Affairs Unit went to several workplaces and took photographs and films of staff dressed in Ghanaian print attire in an effort to document and promote involvement in the program.

The activities were designed to introduce Ghanaian culture into the official workplace and use the corporate setting as a platform to portray pride in local heritage, according to Mr. Gilbert Nii Ankrah, Head of Public Affairs, who spoke in an interview.

According to him, the event was also a part of a larger public initiative to promote a better understanding of Ghanaian goods, especially those related to food and clothes.

In order to increase public awareness and engagement, Mr. Ankrah mentioned that staff members were encouraged to post images and videos from the event on social media by tagging @AccraMetropolis and using the hashtag #EatGhanaWearGhana.

He emphasised that the choice to start the week-long celebration with Corporate Ghana Day demonstrated the significant role that institutions and organised workplaces could play in advancing cultural values and assisting regional businesses.

The program, he continued, was designed to remind locals and employees that selecting Ghanaian food and attire was not only a cultural expression but also a financial choice that supported the expansion of regional companies and industries.

Mr. Ankrah emphasised that the event was in line with the Mayor of Accra’s plan to foster a dynamic urban culture rooted in innovation, tradition, and civic pride.

He reiterated the Assembly’s dedication to programs that promoted public support for regional production and honoured Ghanaian identity.
