Freddie Blay, former National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, has been remanded by the Akropong Circuit Court and is scheduled to appear in court on April 9 for an alleged demolition dispute in Kitase.

Blay was turned up to the Akropong Police by authorities in Accra after a warrant for his arrest was served on Monday, March 16, 2026.

The case concerns an alleged demolition order that the former NPP chairman allegedly issued for a house that was being built on a plot of land in Kitase.

According to reports, Blay was invited to help with investigations after the landowner lodged a complaint with the police. It is said that he did not accept the invitation.

He was later charged, but he failed to show up for his scheduled arraignment in April 2025.

After then, the court issued an arrest warrant, which was carried out on Monday.

Blay was not aware of the warrant prior to his detention, according to people close to him. They assert that the disagreement relates to land he bought in 1994 that was later the focus of legal action.

According to the sources, Blay ordered the clearing of a bare plot of ground in January 2026 to stop the reproduction of harmful creatures, including reptiles, but he did not order the demolition of any buildings.

They further mentioned that the plaintiff had previously received a good result from the Koforidua High Court, but that ruling has now been appealed.

The sources claim that attempts to provide the complaint with appeal-related procedures were unsuccessful.

They further contend that until the arrest warrant was carried out, Blay was not aware of any further court proceedings against him, save from the continuing appeal.
