The Electoral Commission (EC) has claimed significant procurement cost savings in relation to election spending.
On Monday, May 6, 2024, Chairperson Jean Mensa made the announcement in a press release that the EC had successfully reduced the cost per voter from $13 in 2016 to $7 in 2020.
She said that the EC “saved our nation a substantial amount of $90 million” as a consequence.
Mrs. Mensa applauded the commission’s efforts to improve openness and efficiency, especially with the introduction of an open competitive bidding procedure in 2020.
The EC stated that it sought to ensure value for money while promoting competition among suppliers, consequently bringing down procurement costs considerably.
Approximately 95% of procurements were publicized in local newspapers.
She emphasized that by bringing healthy competition into the procurement process and ensuring cost-effectiveness in the acquisition of materials and services, this method has significantly reduced costs for the country.
