Popular Ghanaian artist Charles Nii Armah Mensah, better known by his stage name Shatta Wale, has been found by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to be unable to produce reliable proof of the legal acquisition or ownership of a Lamborghini Urus car that he currently possesses.
In a formal statement released by EOCO on Thursday, August 21, Shatta Wale stated that he bought the expensive car from “the Street,” adding that the vendor may have been a person named “ZAK,” who allegedly got in touch with him via WhatsApp.
Nonetheless, the artist acknowledged that he does not have the WhatsApp contact used in the transaction or know the person’s genuine name.
Shatta Wale did not provide any official records attesting to his ownership of the car, like a sales receipt or transfer documents, the statement added.
A customs declaration form bearing the name of Nana Kwabena Amuah, a person presently serving a jail sentence, is the only document he has.
In the meantime, supporters of Shatta Wale have occupied the EOCO’s headquarters and demanded that he be released from detention.
The artist, who had been detained due to tax compliance difficulties, was given GHS 10 million with two sureties. According to EOCO officials, his release is contingent upon fulfilling all legal obligations.
In a video update, Samuel Atuobi Baah, better known by his stage name Sammy Flex, Shatta Wale’s media manager, revealed that the musician’s management and legal team are attempting to obtain his release.
He reassured supporters that every attempt is being made to fulfill the conditions of the bond.
