The Minister of Health, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has conducted field assessments in the affected areas, such as Circle VIP, Neoplan Station, and Achimota-Aloboshie community, in the wake of the recent floods that affected parts of Accra.

The purpose of these assessments is to assess the conditions on the ground, expedite the deployment of appropriate interventions, and intensify measures to prevent the outbreak of diseases.

In all impacted districts, the Minister has instructed the Ghana Health Service to improve community-level interventions, increase risk communication, and step up illness surveillance.

With assistance from the media, traditional and religious authorities, and educational institutions, health workers have also been asked to expand public education on preventive behaviours.

In order to address important water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) issues brought on by the floods, a coordinated engagement involving the Ghana Health Service, the Ambulance Service, faith-based service delivery agencies, the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), and the Ministry of Local Government has also been called.

The Ministry also urges all Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies to work closely with health authorities in order to implement environmental cleanliness regulations and lower threats to public health.

Food vendors must follow food hygiene regulations to the letter.

It is recommended that people keep their surroundings clean, clear their drains, and get rid of any standing water.

Additionally, residents are advised to be cautious since floods may force dangerous creatures, like reptiles, into neighbourhoods.

The public is reassured by the Ministry that all essential steps are being taken to protect public health and that the issue is under control.

Additionally, the Ministry is still dedicated to maintaining service delivery.

Every Ghanaian is urged to consume well-cooked food, drink clean water, wash their hands frequently with soap and water, maintain good hygiene, and notify the closest medical facility as soon as they become ill.

Additionally, it is recommended that the public only trust information that has been confirmed by official sources.
