President John Dramani Mahama has reassured Ghanaians that the government is expanding the Big Push Programme to cover more high-priority roads and highways across the country.
The announcement comes in response to growing demands from communities for additional road projects to be included in the government’s major infrastructure development initiative. President Mahama disclosed that preparations for Phase Two and Phase Three of the Big Push Programme are already underway.
Mahama Announces Expansion of Big Push Road Projects
President Mahama made the announcement during an inspection of the Navrongo–Chuchuliga–Tumu Road as part of his Resetting Ghana Tour of the Upper East Region.
According to the President, the government’s long-term objective is to improve road connectivity across Ghana by linking all regional capitals with quality and reliable road networks.
“Our intention is to link all the regional capitals to one another with good roads. In addition, some of the major districts will also receive road improvements,” President Mahama stated.
He further expressed confidence that the five-year implementation of the Big Push Programme would address many of the country’s major road infrastructure challenges.
President Mahama said that by the completion of the programme, more communities would have their roads captured under the government’s development plans.
Navrongo–Chuchuliga–Tumu Road Project
The Navrongo–Chuchuliga–Tumu Road project is expected to improve transportation and connectivity between communities in the Upper East and Upper West regions.
Roads Minister Kwame Agbodza said the completion of the project would significantly improve the condition of the road corridor between Bolgatanga and Wa.
He explained that once the project is completed, concerns about the poor condition of the route would be substantially addressed, making the corridor safer and more accessible for motorists and commuters.
The expansion of the Big Push Programme forms part of the government’s broader infrastructure agenda aimed at improving Ghana’s road network, boosting economic activity, strengthening regional connectivity and supporting sustainable development.
