Roads and Highways Minister Governs Kwame Agbodza has expressed strong concerns over delays in the construction of the Enchi-Elubo Road, warning the contractor, Top International Company, to take immediate steps to resume progress on the project.
The Minister has directed the company to report to the Ministry of Roads and Highways on Friday with its top management to explain the continued delays and outline measures to ensure the project moves forward.
Mr Agbodza warned that the government would not tolerate what he described as a third disappointment on the Enchi-Elubo road project, particularly after GH¢82 million has already been paid to the contractor.
The Roads Minister indicated that failure by Top International Company to provide satisfactory assurances could put its Enchi-Elubo road contract at risk.
The development has raised renewed concerns about delays in major road construction projects in Ghana, with the government emphasizing the need for contractors to deliver projects within agreed timelines after receiving public funds.
The Enchi-Elubo Road project is considered an important transport infrastructure project, particularly because of its role in improving road connectivity and facilitating movement between communities and commercial centres in the Western Region.
The government is expected to closely monitor the contractor’s response as it seeks to ensure that public investment in the road project translates into tangible infrastructure development.
