Following attacks on the person of Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyeman, the party’s vice presidential candidate, female members of parliament belonging to the Minority group have come out strongly against the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

When Chairman Wontumi made disparaging statements about the good professor, it created a heated political atmosphere and sparked demands for greater norms of political speech from a variety of social groups.

Wontumi’s most recent assault on the party’s running mate was deemed unacceptable and shameful by the NDC women’s caucus.

The caucus urged the NPP and its leaders to refocus their energies on solving urgent domestic problems.

“Such behaviour undermines the integrity of political discourse and reflects poorly on both Chairman Wontumi and the NP),”

“Instead of engaging in petty insults, Bernard Antwi-Boasiako and the NPP should rather prioritize addressing the collapsing economy and delivering on their promises to the Ghanaian people.”“It is time for chairman Wontumi, the NPP, and the government to redirect their efforts towards constructive actions that benefit all Ghanaians rather than resorting to divisive rhetoric,” the statement said and stressed that Ghanaians deserve leaders who uphold dignity and focus on meaningful progress for the nation, a statement signed by Comfort Doyoe Cudjoe, Deputy Minority Whip said.

“We are committed to promoting a culture of respect, dignity, and equality for all individuals, regardless of their gender, background, or ethnic affiliation,” the statement concluded, calling for unity in denouncing such reprehensible behaviour and demanding accountability from those who perpetrate it. they added

The female Minority MPs also brought up the attacks’ recurrent nature, including a same occurrence that happened on July 10, 2020, carried out by the same person.

The MPs threatened to “advise themselves” if Chairman Wontumi did not publicly apologize to Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang and all women in Ghana.
