Students in Form Three who are enrolled in the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) program are not required to pay registration fees for the West Africa Senior Secondary School Certificate Examinations (WASSCE), according to the Ghana Education Service (GES).
It stated that as part of the Free SHS initiative, the government has paid the GHS465 registration fee. This was said by GES Director General Dr. Eric Nkansah at a news conference on the WASSCE registration procedure for SHS Final Year students in Accra.
He warned parents not to give their wards who are taking part in the program any money under the guise of WASSCE registration.
On April 17, 2024, Form Three SHS students will start registering following their return from break. Dr. Nkansah applauded the three pre-tertiary teacher unions for ending their two-week strike: the Coalition of Concerned Teachers Ghana, the National Association of Graduate Teachers, and the Ghana National Association of Teachers.
He assured them that the Service would keep pushing for the perks and incentives they deserve, as well as well-deserved working circumstances that will improve their quality of work.
However, after the National Labor Commission (NLC) obtained an interim injunction to stop their industrial action, the teacher unions made the decision to end their strike.
While they went back to teaching in the classroom, they would keep pressing the government to comply with their demands.
For applicants preparing for the 2024 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), West African Senior Schools Certificate Examination (WASSCE), and Genera/Advanced Business Certificate Examination, the West African Examinations Council has launched its registration sites.
Monday, August 5, 2024, will mark the start of the WASSCE exams, which will run through September 27, 2024.
