The Ghana Police Service has urged final-year Senior High School students to celebrate properly as the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) concludes today, Friday, June 19.

In a statement, the police warned students not to commit violent crimes, vandalism, or any other illegal activity, emphasising that anyone who do so will be detained and prosecuted in line with the law.

The Service claims that engaging in criminal activity during post-exam celebrations could have dire repercussions, endangering students’ prospects and ruining years of diligence and academic effort.

The warning comes in the wake of recent student disturbances in the Upper East Region.

Two students at Zebilla Senior High Technical School were taken into custody in relation to a teacher’s alleged flat arson. Four students were arrested in a different event at Bawku Senior High School for reportedly rioting, attacking school personnel, and damaging both public and private property.

As candidates finish their exams, the Ghana Police Service urged students, parents, guardians, and school officials to collaborate in order to foster respect, discipline, and calm celebrations.

The Service reaffirmed its dedication to upholding law and order and reminded students that although the conclusion of WASSCE is a moment to celebrate, it must be done sensibly and within the bounds of the law.
