Azumah Nelson is a retired Ghanaian professional boxer who was born on 19th July 1958 in Accra, Ghana.
He is widely regarded as one of the greatest African boxers of all time and is a former three-time world champion in two weight classes.


Nelson turned professional in 1979 and went on to have a successful career that spanned over two decades. He won the WBC featherweight title in 1984 by defeating Wilfredo Gómez and went on to successfully defend his title several times. He later moved up to the super featherweight division and won the WBC title in that weight class as well.


In addition to his world titles, Nelson also won several regional titles and was a member of the Ghanaian national boxing team at the 1980 Olympics. He retired from boxing in 2008 with a professional record of 39 wins, 6 losses, and 2 draws.
Nelson is celebrated for his exceptional boxing skills and his contribution to the development of boxing in Africa. He has been honored with numerous awards for his achievements, including induction into the International Boxing Hall of Fame and the Ghana Sports Hall of Fame.
