The Ghana Gold Board (GOLDBOD) received strong international support for Ghana’s responsible sourcing, ASM formalisation, traceability, and value-added agenda at the London Bullion Market Association (LBMA) and World Gold Council’s Sustainability & Responsible Sourcing Summit 2026.

The International Bullion Centers (IBC) Association extended a special invitation to the GOLDBOD to attend a high-level Roundtable in appreciation of Ghana’s increasing significance in the global gold value chain.

Richard Nunekpeku, Deputy CEO of GOLDBOD, gave a presentation on Ghana’s GoldBod regulatory architecture and current changes to improve ASM formalisation, local refining, traceability, and responsible sourcing.

The LBMA’s acknowledgement of Ghana’s growing strategic role in the global precious metals market and its pledge to investigate policy frameworks that will promote further international recognition of Ghana as a major market player were two important outcomes of the discussions.

Additionally, the LBMA strongly endorsed the GOLDBOD’s traceability and ASM formalisation agenda, acknowledging that these efforts are essential to bolstering ethical sourcing and improving the integrity of Ghana’s gold supply chain.

As part of this commitment, the LBMA promised to collaborate closely with the GOLDBOD in developing compliance frameworks, responsible sourcing standards, and globally synchronised traceability systems for the artisanal and small-scale mining industry.

The LBMA also stated that it will assist in the creation of useful instruments and industry best practices that will enhance auditability, encourage transparency, and make it easier for Ghana’s ASM sector to gradually integrate into international responsible gold supply chains.

Richard Nunekpeku commented on the outcome, saying that the talks support Ghana’s goal of becoming a major responsible gold producer and show rising international confidence in the country’s reforms.
