The COCOBOD Bill 2026, which was passed under a certificate of urgency, replaces several outdated laws that have governed Ghana’s cocoa sector for decades with a single, modern legal framework.
The new law is expected to enhance the regulation, supervision, and development of activities across the entire cocoa value chain, creating a more efficient and sustainable industry.
Government officials say the reforms will support economic growth, increase investment in Ghana’s cocoa sector, improve transparency in COCOBOD’s operations, and create more opportunities for local manufacturing and export of value-added cocoa products.
