MTN Ghana has warned Mobile Money (MoMo) users that customers who fail to repay their digital loans can no longer avoid repayment by discarding their SIM cards, thanks to the Ghana Card registration system.

Speaking during a media and stakeholder engagement organized by MTN Ghana in Sunyani, the company’s Field Service Manager (Network) in Kumasi, Dickson Amoung-Yam, urged MoMo loan beneficiaries to repay borrowed funds promptly.

He explained that borrowers who previously took Mobile Money loans and avoided repayment by abandoning their SIM cards will now be easily identified because their accounts are linked to their Ghana Card details. According to him, anyone attempting to register a new SIM card after defaulting on a MoMo loan will be detected through the national identification system.

Mr. Amoung-Yam encouraged customers to honor their loan obligations, stressing that timely repayment allows more people to access MTN Mobile Money loans and other digital financial services.

He emphasized that customer satisfaction remains a top priority for MTN Ghana, noting that the telecommunications company continues to invest heavily in improving network quality and digital services across the country.

The MTN official also advised customers to report network or service challenges promptly so the company can address them efficiently and improve user experience.

Highlighting the expansion of MTN’s network coverage, Mr. Amoung-Yam said the company has significantly improved connectivity across Ghana, enabling even farmers in remote communities and forest areas to make phone calls and send text messages.

He further encouraged customers to take advantage of MTN’s digital applications and self-service platforms, which provide convenient access to services and help reduce long queues at MTN service centers.
