The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) is set to provide US$250,000 (approximately GH₵3 million) in humanitarian assistance to support victims affected by Ghana’s recent devastating floods.
The announcement was made by Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, through a Facebook post, confirming that the Foreign Affairs Ministry has officially received notification from ECOWAS regarding the financial assistance.
According to the Minister, the flood relief donation is intended to help families and communities impacted by the widespread flooding. He assured Ghanaians that, in the interest of transparency and accountability, the Ministry will transfer the full amount to the appropriate government agencies immediately after the funds are received.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on behalf of the Government of Ghana, expressed sincere appreciation to Economic Community of West African States for its timely support, solidarity, and commitment to assisting Ghana during this challenging period.
The June 29 floods affected several communities across seven regions, displacing thousands of households while causing significant destruction to homes, businesses, roads, and other critical infrastructure. The ECOWAS financial support is expected to contribute to ongoing disaster relief and recovery efforts for affected communities across the country.
