The Ghana Police Service has interdicted seven police officers following an alleged extortion incident in Accra involving members of a police patrol team.
According to the Police, the officers are alleged to have demanded money from a victim and compelled the individual to withdraw the money from an ATM for them.
The seven interdicted officers have been identified as:
- Inspector Courage Boateng
- General Sergeant Stephen Addo
- General Corporal Moses Anyravi
- General Corporal Prosper Adiabo
- General Lance Corporal Samuel Anokye
- General Constable Henrietta Coleman
- General Constable Bernard Amoako
The Ghana Police Service said the interdiction will allow the Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB) to conduct a full investigation into the allegations.
In a statement, the Police assured the public that the matter would be thoroughly investigated and that appropriate action would be taken based on the findings.
The Service said the investigation forms part of efforts to maintain professional standards, accountability and discipline within the Ghana Police Service.
The statement was signed by Deputy Superintendent of Police Richmond Mensah, Staff Officer at the Police Public Affairs Directorate.
