President John Dramani Mahama has urged Ghanaians to embrace sacrifice, integrity, and solidarity as the country faces its current challenges, emphasising that national development is as dependent on individuals’ character as it is on government policies.

Speaking on April 3 at a Good Friday Miracle Service in Black Star Square, the President characterised the yearly event as a time for introspection, prayer, and a renewed dedication to the advancement of the country.

Under the direction of Dag Heward-Mills and organised by United Denominations Originating from the Lighthouse Group of Churches, the event attracted sizable audiences and was webcast to a worldwide audience.

According to President Mahama, the Easter message emphasised the idea of sacrifice before victory and asked people to consider what they were prepared to give up for the benefit of their communities and the country.

He pointed out that the cross’s symbolism should be mirrored in daily behaviour in addition to being observed spiritually.

“My brothers and sisters, if Christ laid down His life for us, how much more should we be willing to lay down our pride, resentment, division and hatred toward one another? We must not merely pretend to be Christians,” he said.

“We must not just claim to be followers of Jesus Christ. We must live Christ-like lives. So, if anyone among you is holding a grudge or in conflict with someone, this is the moment to let it go. Leave that burden here and go back to that person and show them love, the same love that Christ has shown you.”

The President also called on Ghanaians to show compassion to those in need, pointing out that many people were dealing with emotional and financial difficulties in addition to spiritual difficulties.

He claimed that deeds of generosity, forgiveness, and kindness showed the genuine meaning of Easter.

President Mahama emphasised that the integrity and accountability of the nation’s citizens would determine its advancement, especially during difficult times, as he connected the Easter message to national development.

Drawing comparisons between the crucifixion and resurrection as a warning that challenging times might lead to rebirth and advancement, he urged the populace to maintain optimism.

Bishop Heward-Mills emphasised the topic of “The Word and the Blood” in his sermon, outlining how Jesus Christ’s redeeming power was essential to defeating evil and rebuilding lives.

He exhorted devotees to accept their religion and let spiritual development direct their behaviour.

The service, which included prayer, worship, and altar calls, focused on themes of salvation, healing, and the message of the cross, highlighting Easter’s importance as a moral and spiritual guide for individual and societal regeneration.
