The Ghana High Commission in Pretoria announced that registration for the current voluntary repatriation program for Ghanaians living in South Africa would be temporarily suspended.
The suspension begins on June 2, 2026, per a statement released on June 1, 2026.
The decision, according to the High Commission, is meant to enable officials to handle and screen the numerous applications that have already been received under the program.
It stated that over 1,500 Ghanaians have registered thus far, and that processing and verification are presently in progress.
The Commission emphasised that the repatriation process does not end with the temporary pause.
It assured those who had not yet registered that a new registration phase will be revealed soon.
The announcement stated that “the date of the next phase for new registration will be communicated in due course.”
It further stated that the suspension will make it possible for the Commission and pertinent Home Affairs authorities to efficiently handle applications that have been submitted and guarantee a seamless procedure.
The High Commission thanked the Ghanaian population in South Africa for their cooperation, tolerance, and comprehension during the exercise.
In order to help Ghanaians living in South Africa who want to return home, the voluntary repatriation program was established, and authorities are working to make the process organised and structured.
