The Special Prosecutor’s request for access to the Integrated Customs Management System (ICUMS) platform, which they view as being extremely sensitive, has angered the Importers and Exporters Association of Ghana.
They made a point of pointing out that the medium contains sensitive and valuable information about importers, exporters, and business owners. The association issued a warning that any security lapses brought on by the Office of the Special Prosecutor’s (OSP) quest for data access could be detrimental to the business community.
The organization demanded an explanation from the OSP over their unexpected request in a press release on June 15, 2023.
They demanded explanation precisely on the elements that led to the OSP’s sudden interest as well as the specific data they sought to get from the ICUMS platform.
The Ghanaian Importers and Exporters Association promised to uphold moral corporate conduct while supporting efforts to create a corruption-free port sector. In order to win the support of important business players, they also asked the OSP to carry out its duties in a transparent manner.
