The Ghana Medical Trust Fund (“MahamaCares”) has received a substantial donation of GHS 2 million from the Ghana Gold Board (“GoldBod”) in an effort to improve healthcare services and address the rising prevalence of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in Ghana.
GoldBod’s Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Richard Nunekpeku, spoke during the presentation event and reiterated the organization’s faith in the Fund’s leadership and His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama’s mission.
“We are convinced of the foresight behind MahamaCares and the capacity of its administrators to deliver on its mission and to use the resources effectively in furtherance of this noble vision, the reason why we are making this donation” he said.

In addition, Mr. Nunekpeku urged other government and private organizations to work together to assist this admirable endeavor that aims to address the unique difficulties associated with the treatment of chronic illnesses in Ghana.
The MahamaCares Fund Administrator, Obuobia Darko Opoku, accepted the donation and emphasized the critical healthcare deficiencies identified by a recent needs assessment.
According to the report, there are serious shortages of vital medical supplies in Accra’s main hospitals.
“Our focus is to equip health institutions with the tools needed to provide quality care for patients battling non-communicable diseases,” she said, reaffirming the Fund’s commitment to tackling these shortcomings.
The Ghana Gold Board has taken a daring step to improve Ghana’s healthcare system with its donation.
In addition to providing financial support, the donation shows a sense of community accountability and desire to ensure improved health results for all Ghanaians.
